If this does not work, contact us via the Contact area of the website. Multiple accounts will not be approved. Email addresses can be updated in My Account once you have logged in.
  6. Members must ensure their information is correct and up to date at all times. If any change of status occurs, members must update their account or inform Defence Discount Service. Please see our Privacy Notice for information we hold about you.

  11. If an offer does not work and does not provide a discount, please contact Defence Discount Service to notify and report this. If you continue with your purchase without the discount, you authorise the transaction with no discount and any refund of the discount amount is at the company’s discretion.
  12. Defence Discount Service provides links and codes supplied by companies wanting to offer discounts to members. Affiliate networks

Defence Discount Service is paid by some of the retailers featured on our service when a member makes a purchase. When you click through to a retailer, your browser may be redirected via an affiliate network that drops a cookie on your device to track the referral. The retailer then sends us information about your purchase. No personal information such as your name or email address is involved in this process. We do not drop the affiliate network cookie ourselves; we are providing this notice for transparency before you use our service to make a transaction.

Defence Discount Service – Shopping Cards Terms & Conditions

These terms apply when you buy or use a digital shopping card (“Shopping Cards”) from Blue Light Card Ltd, (trading as ‘Defence Discount Service’), a company registered in England whose registered office is at Charnwood Edge Business Park Syston Road, Cossington, Leicester, Leicestershire, England, LE7 4UZ (“Defence Discount Service”, “we”, “us”, “our”).

By buying or using a Shopping Card, you agree to the following terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t buy or use the Shopping Cards.

We may change these terms from time to time by giving you reasonable notice. If a change materially affects your rights, we will give you at least 30 days’ notice before it takes effect. Any value already loaded onto a Shopping Card at the time of the change will remain subject to the terms in effect when that value was loaded. If you do not agree with a change, you may stop using the Shopping Cards, but this will not affect any rights you already have.

Shopping Cards

Shopping Cards are subject to availability. We, or someone else, may limit how many you can buy, reject your order, or stop offering certain Shopping Cards at any time, even after you have placed an order. Prices can change without notice, but you will see the current price charged when you order.

You can buy and view Shopping Cards on our website (link) and through the Defence Discount Service app. Most Shopping Cards can be bought and topped-up (where permitted) for amounts between £10 and £5,000, but some Providers may set their own limits. We may also set reasonable limits on how many Shopping Cards you can buy, top-up or how much you can spend on Shopping Cards in a certain time period.

Once you have viewed your Shopping Card, we will have fulfilled our part of the agreement and we will have no further responsibility for the Shopping Card unless required by law.

Limitations

We know Shopping Cards are used for everyday shopping, big purchases or sometimes as gifts for loved ones. That’s fine, but there are a few rules:

  • You only use Shopping Cards for personal use – you can’t re-sell Shopping Cards or use them for business. Personal use does however include gifting. You may purchase Shopping Cards as a gift for others for their personal use.
  • You must be over the age of 18 to buy a Shopping Card.
  • The Defence Discount Service account holder is responsible for all purchases made on their account, even if that purchase was not made by them.

You can’t use your Shopping Card to buy another Shopping Card or a gift card from a retailer. Shopping Cards can’t be resold, transferred, or exchanged for cash.

Our offers for Shopping Cards can change daily. The price you pay is the price shown when you complete your purchase. If a better offer comes up later, we can’t adjust your order or refund the difference. This doesn’t affect your cancellation rights described below.

Payment

The value of your Shopping Card or top-up will be charged to your chosen method of payment. If your payment doesn’t go through, is invalid or otherwise unacceptable, your order or top-up may be cancelled. We’re not responsible for payment issues – you’ll need to sort those out with your payment provider.

Providers of Shopping Cards

The Shopping Cards that you purchase from us are redeemable with third party retailers (“Provider”). As well as these terms, each Shopping Card is subject to the Provider’s own terms. We will notify you of these terms before you buy the Shopping Card. Providers (and not Defence Discount Service) are responsible for how their Shopping Cards work and how you may use them.

We are not responsible for any problems caused by the Provider or anything you buy from them using the Shopping Card. This includes:

  • If you buy a Shopping Card with a specific item or deal in mind, but the Provider no longer offers it when you want to use the Shopping Card.
  • If the Provider goes out of business or stops accepting the Shopping Card for purchases.
  • If you don’t meet age (or other) requirements set by the Provider to buy the product or service.

We’re not liable for any problems caused by the Provider or their products or services, and we can’t help with refunds or returns from the Provider. If your issue relates to something the Provider has done, or something you bought from the Provider, you will need to contact the Provider to deal with this.

Individual Shopping Card Details

Each Shopping Card may have different expiry dates, rules on use, and terms set by the Provider. You must follow these rules when using the Shopping Card.

Please read the Provider’s terms before buying a Shopping Card. If you have questions, please contact the relevant Provider directly.

Delivery

We aim to deliver your Shopping Card within a few minutes of your order confirmation. Most arrive within 5 minutes. If you haven’t received your Shopping Card within 24 hours, please contact us here.

If there’s a delay, and you’ve let us know, then we will try to fix it if we can. It may however be that the delay is not caused by us, in which case we are not responsible for the delay. We aren’t liable for any delays unless the Shopping Card:

  • arrives after it has expired, or
  • isn’t as we described it when you bought it.

In those cases, we’ll either give you an alternative Shopping Card or give you money back for the Shopping Card.

Redemption

If your Shopping Card can’t be used after delivery (and it’s not your fault), we’ll either give you an alternative Shopping Card or money back for the Shopping Card.

Top-Ups

You may add additional funds to an eligible Shopping Card at any time, subject to the Provider’s terms and any limits that apply. Any applicable limits will be displayed at the point of top-up.

We may refuse a top-up if we suspect fraud, misuse, or any activity that breaches these terms. The value loaded onto a Shopping Card becomes available for use once the top-up is successfully processed. All top-ups are final and non-refundable, except where required by law.

We will send you a confirmation once your top-up has been successfully processed, and the value will then be available for use on your Shopping Card.

Your Right to Cancel an Order

Excluding all Top-Up purchases, if you have not viewed your Shopping Card within 14 days of purchase (the “Cooling Off Period”), you can cancel your order – no reason needed. However, if, when buying the Shopping Card, you choose to receive it before the end of the Cooling Off Period (and you acknowledge that you will lose your right to cancel if you view the Shopping Card) you will lose your right to cancel without a reason once the Shopping Card has been viewed.

You can raise a ticket here to cancel an order. Once cancelled, we will provide you with a refund of the price you paid for the Shopping Card.

Lost or Stolen Shopping Cards

If your Shopping Card is lost before you’ve used it, let us know as soon as possible. We’ll try to replace the Shopping Card, but only if the Provider allows it.

We’re not responsible if your Shopping Card is lost, stolen, damaged, or used without your permission, unless it’s our fault. We also can’t help if you didn’t receive your Shopping Card because you gave us incorrect or incomplete information, like your email address.

Irredeemable Shopping Cards

If your Shopping Card doesn’t work because of a technical issue caused by us (like a broken link to view the Shopping Card), or isn’t as we described it when you bought it, we’ll either give you an alternative Shopping Card or money back for the Shopping Card.

Issues with Shopping Cards

If your Shopping Card is lost, stolen, damaged, or doesn’t work, or you wish to cancel your order before you have viewed the Shopping Card, you will need to contact us here. You’ll need to tell us why and provide proof of purchase.

To avoid problems, make sure you’re using the latest version of your web browser and the Defence Discount Service app. Older versions might not work properly and could be less secure. We recommend turning on automatic updates.

We are not responsible for:

  • technical issues outside of our control that stop you from accessing your Shopping Card, including issues caused by your web browser, internet connection or outdated software, or
  • you losing access to the Defence Discount Service app, your Defence Discount Service account, or the benefits of your membership due to your own actions, such as failing to comply with any of our terms or any legal requirements.

Our Cancellation Rights

We may cancel a Shopping Card or refuse a top-up, or refuse to cancel, refund or exchange a Shopping Card, if we suspect fraud, misconduct or any breach of these terms.

Privacy Notice

Please review our Privacy Notice to understand how we use your personal data.

View Your Balance

You can check the balance of your Shopping Card, including any top-ups, on your Defence Discount Service member account on our website, the Defence Discount Service app, or by visiting the Provider’s website.

Customer Service

Need help with your Shopping Card? Visit our dedicated Defence Discount Service Shopping Card Help Centre area here.

If you’re having trouble using your Shopping Card with a Provider, please contact the relevant Provider directly using the details in their terms.

Governing Law

These terms are governed by English law, and both you and Defence Discount Service will only bring legal proceedings in connection with these terms in English courts.

Defence Discount Service Cinema – Cinema Voucher Terms and Conditions

General Terms

  1. These terms apply when you buy or use a Cinema Voucher (Cinema Voucher(s), Voucher(s)) from Blue Light Card Ltd (trading as ‘Defence Discount Service’), a company registered in England whose registered office is at Charnwood Edge Business Park Syston Road, Cossington, Leicester, Leicestershire, England, LE7 4UZ (Defence Discount Service, we, us, our), redeemable at third party Cinema Providers listed within Defence Discount Service Cinema (Cinema Provider(s)).
  2. When you buy or use a Cinema Voucher you are agreeing to the following terms.
  3. Access to Cinema Vouchers is limited to those that hold a valid Defence Discount Service membership.
  4. We may change these terms at any time for any reason (such as changes in law or regulation, changes to the cost of providing our services, or changes to the services). Where we make a change that is to your detriment, we will give you at least 30 days’ notice by email before the change takes effect. The version of the terms that applies to you are those in effect at the time you purchased the Cinema Voucher.

Your Cinema Voucher

  1. You can buy and view Cinema Vouchers on our website.
  2. Cinema Vouchers are subject to availability. We may limit how many Cinema Vouchers you can buy in a set period, how much you can spend on Cinema Vouchers in a set period, reject your order, or stop offering certain Cinema Vouchers at any time. In certain circumstances we can cancel your Cinema Vouchers or suspend your Defence Discount Service account, even after you have placed an order, including but not limited to where you are in breach of any of our Terms and Conditions, including these Terms, our Terms and conditions for the online account, and/or our Shopping Cards Terms and Conditions.
  3. Cinema Voucher prices can be changed without notice. The price shown when placing your order will always be the current price. The price will not change once your order is confirmed.
  4. When you buy a Cinema Voucher, you are asking us to send it to you immediately after purchase. By completing your purchase, you expressly consent to delivery straight away and you acknowledge that, once your Cinema Voucher has been viewed in either your account or via your email address, you will lose your 14-day statutory right to cancel under the applicable consumer laws and regulations. This does not affect any rights you have in relation to faulty or misdescribed digital content under applicable consumer laws and regulations.
  5. Once your Cinema Voucher has been viewed, we will have fulfilled our obligations. Your Cinema Voucher must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described at the point of purchase. If it is not, please see the ‘Unreceived, Irredeemable, or Faulty Cinema Vouchers’ section below. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights. You will need to redeem the Cinema Voucher with the relevant Cinema Provider directly (see more about redemption in ‘Redeeming your Cinema Voucher’ below).
  6. Cinema Providers do place usage limitations and restrictions on which of their products and services are eligible for Cinema Vouchers to be redeemed against. It is your responsibility to check the usage limitations and restrictions which are available during the purchase journey and if the Cinema Voucher can be used for the specific films, screens, seats, products or services you want to book with the Cinema Provider before completing your purchase with us.
  7. Any materials containing links to the Cinema Providers’ sites and/or connected resources and/or materials are provided for your information only, and we have no control over the contents of those sites, resources, or materials.

Limitations

  1. There are a few rules that apply to the Cinema Vouchers:
    • they must only be used for personal use – you cannot resell Cinema Vouchers or use them for business. Personal use does, however, include gifting, and you may purchase Cinema Vouchers as gifts for others for their personal use.
    • age restrictions may apply to cinema screenings. We recommend that you check the age-rating for the screening you plan to purchase a Cinema Voucher to redeem against prior to purchase. You and anyone in your party may be asked by the Cinema Provider to provide valid proof of age when attending the viewing.
    • the Defence Discount Service account holder is responsible for all purchases made on their account, even if that purchase was not made by them.
  2. Admission to a screening is at the Cinema Provider’s discretion and in accordance with their own policies and rules; all admission decisions by a Cinema Provider are outside of our control.
  3. We cannot guarantee that the Cinema Voucher will always be the cheapest option available and it is your responsibility to compare available prices (including direct purchasing). If a better offer becomes available later from us or directly from the Cinema Provider, we cannot adjust your order or refund the difference. This does not affect your cancellation rights described below.

Redeeming your Cinema Voucher

  1. You will need to redeem the Cinema Voucher with the relevant Cinema Provider directly, in accordance with their terms, either online or at the cinema (as permitted by the applicable Cinema Provider).
  2. A Cinema Voucher is not a ticket and does not guarantee you a seat. We cannot guarantee the availability of the Cinema Providers’ products and services against which your Cinema Voucher may be redeemed.
  3. Upgrade fees will apply if at the point of redemption with the Cinema Provider you choose to redeem your Cinema Voucher against a premium format or seat.
  4. Where a Cinema Provider charges its own booking fee to redeem your voucher online with them, we will state this to you during the purchase journey. The fees below are correct at the time these terms were last updated but may be subject to change by the Cinema Provider. We will always show the current applicable booking fee during your purchase journey.

Details of such additional fees by the Cinema Provider can be found here:

Cinema Provider Booking Fee Applied
Cineworld £1.00 Per ticket
Odeon £1.00 Per ticket
Picturehouse £1.00 Per ticket
Showcase £2.50 Per booking
The Light No booking fee
Vue No booking fee

Payment

  1. The value of your Cinema Voucher(s) will be charged to your chosen method of payment. If your payment does not go through, is invalid, or is otherwise unacceptable your order may be cancelled. We are not responsible for payment issues – you will need to contact your payment provider.

Cinema Providers

  1. As well as these terms, each Cinema Voucher is subject to the relevant Cinema Provider’s own terms. Access to these terms can be found here. You should consider the terms before you buy the Cinema Voucher. The relevant Cinema Provider is responsible for how you may redeem the Cinema Voucher.
  2. Your Cinema Voucher is sold by Blue Light Card and entitles you to redeem it at the relevant Cinema Provider. When you redeem and book with a Cinema Provider, you enter a separate contract with the cinema, governed by their terms and conditions (including any product-specific terms).
  3. We are not responsible for any problems caused by or related to the Cinema Providers or their operations; please contact the relevant Cinema Provider directly if you have any issues or concerns. This may include, but not be limited to, the following scenarios:
    • if you purchase a Cinema Voucher but, at the point of redemption, there is no availability for the screening you wish to attend and/or only higher-tiered seating is available and you need to pay the difference to the Cinema Provider for such an upgrade;
    • if the Cinema Provider that you have purchased a Cinema Voucher for becomes insolvent or stops accepting the Cinema Voucher when you go to redeem;
    • if you purchase a Cinema Voucher and book a cinema ticket with the applicable Cinema Provider without having applied the Cinema Voucher;
    • if the location of the Cinema Provider that you purchased a Cinema Voucher for is no longer available or is closed;
    • the screening that you wished to view is not eligible for Cinema Voucher redemption;
    • if the screening that you purchased a Cinema Voucher for is cancelled or changes; or
    • if you, or someone in your party, do not meet the age (or other) requirements set out by the Cinema Provider when redeeming the Cinema Voucher, or when attending the screening.
  4. We are not liable for any problems caused by the Cinema Providers or their products or services, and we cannot help with refunds or returns from the Cinema Provider. If your issue relates to something the Cinema Provider has done, or something you bought from the Cinema Provider, you will need to contact the Cinema Provider directly.

Individual Cinema Voucher Details

  1. Each Cinema Voucher may have different usage restrictions, and terms set by the applicable Cinema Provider. These will be available to view when you select your chosen Cinema Voucher. You must follow these terms when using the Cinema Voucher – details are available here.
  2. Please check the expiry date on the Cinema Voucher you have purchased and ensure you use it within the validity period.

Delivery

  1. We aim to deliver your Cinema Voucher within a few minutes of your order confirmation. Most arrive within 5 minutes. If you have not received your Cinema Voucher within 24 hours, please contact us here.
  2. If there is a delay with delivery, and you have contacted us at support, we will try to fix it if we can. It may, however, be that the delay is not caused by us, in which case we are not responsible for the delay. We are not liable for any delays unless the Cinema Voucher:
    • arrives after it has expired, or
    • is not as described at purchase.
  3. In those cases, we will either give you an alternative Cinema Voucher or issue a refund for the Cinema Voucher.

Your Right to Cancel an Order

  1. For the avoidance of doubt, any Cinema Voucher(s) that you have viewed are non-refundable, non-exchangeable, non-transferable and no cash alternative is offered other than in instances where we may, at our discretion, refund or replace your purchased Cinema Voucher. Please take care when purchasing a Cinema Voucher.
  2. However, if the Cinema Voucher is not delivered, does not work, or is not as described, please see the below paragraph on ‘Unreceived, Irredeemable, or Faulty Cinema Vouchers’.
  3. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Lost or Stolen Cinema Vouchers

  1. You should keep your Cinema Voucher(s) safe and secure. We are not responsible and have no obligation to provide you with a replacement Cinema Voucher if it is lost, stolen, or is used by someone else. You will not be entitled to a refund unless such scenarios are a direct result of our actions.

Unreceived, Irredeemable, or Faulty Cinema Vouchers

  1. If you have not received your Cinema Voucher after completing your purchase, please check your email junk folder. Non-arrival must be reported to us as soon as possible. We have no obligation to provide a replacement Cinema Voucher where non-arrival was caused by you providing incorrect or incomplete information, such as an incorrect email address.
  2. If your Cinema Voucher does not work, you must contact us at support as soon as possible, providing your transaction number, email address used, proof of purchase, and any other information we may reasonably require to investigate the issue (such as screenshots, booking references, failed redemption attempts, timestamps, or correspondence with the relevant Cinema Provider).
  3. Following investigation:
    • where the issue is determined to be caused by a technical fault on our part (such as a broken link), we will, at your option, either replace or refund the Cinema Voucher; or
    • where the issue is determined to lie with the Cinema Provider, you will be directed to contact the Cinema Provider directly.
  4. To avoid technical issues, ensure you are using the latest version of your web browser and the Defence Discount Service app, and we recommend enabling automatic updates.
  5. We are not responsible for:
    • technical issues outside of our control that prevent you from accessing your Cinema Voucher, including those caused by your web browser, internet connection, or outdated software;
    • loss of access to the Defence Discount Service app, your account, or your membership benefits as a result of your own actions, including failure to comply with our terms or any applicable legal requirements; or
    • an annual pass purchased using a Cinema Voucher that you lose access to, or that ceases to function, for any reason during the lifetime of that pass.

Our Cancellation Rights

  1. We reserve the right to cancel a Cinema Voucher, or refuse to cancel, refund, or exchange a Cinema Voucher, if we suspect fraud, misconduct, or any breach of these terms.
