Blue Light Card Ltd, owners and operators of Defence Discount Service are delighted to announce that we have been awarded the bronze award from the Armed Forces Covenant Employer Recognition Scheme.

The Employer Recognition Scheme encourages employers to support defence and inspire other organisations to do the same. We are proud to promote being Armed Forces-friendly and pledge to continue to champion the entirety of the Armed Forces community.

We would encourage any business, whether currently working with us or not, to get in contact with us so that we can help put you in touch with the Armed Forces Covenant to support the members of our Armed Forces.

Renewing your expiring Defence Privilege Card

Renewing your expiring Defence Privilege Card

With the 31st December 2017 approaching, the first set of Defence Privilege Cards are due to expire.  So how do you renew your card?  Below we have included a brief step by step on how to do this.

The first point to note is that, at the moment, this process is ONLY available through the website and not through the mobile app.

The step by steps are as follows:

1.  Log in to the website.  You can only renew your card from 30 days before it expires.

2.  Click on Privilege Card in the header menu.

3.  Click on the button Renew Card.  This is a blue button.

4.  Enter your address.

5.  Depending on your category of membership will depend upon whether you will need to provide ID.  If you are a Veteran or Serving Member then you will not have to provide us with ID and the system will not ask for it.

6.  Pay for your new Defence Privilege Card.  It is £4.99 for a 5 year membership still.

7.  We will print your card and sent it out to your address.

We hope that this helps and we are here to help if you have any issues.

Thank you, The DDS Team

GO Outdoors Sign Armed Forces Covenant

GO Outdoors Sign Armed Forces Covenant

GO Outdoors has shown its support to the UK Armed Forces by signing the Armed Forces Covenant.

GO Outdoors work to ensure everyone, regardless of ability can access the equipment they need to enjoy the outdoors and we support the Armed Forces by offering additional discounts to current and former service personnel (an extra 10% off standard Discount Card prices*), while employees of the company can benefit from our Reservists Policy for those who serve as volunteers.

The signing of the Armed Forces Covenant was attended by GO Outdoors Managing Director Claire Webb, Lieutenant Colonel Andy Black of the 4th Infantry Brigade Regional Employer Engagement Team and Richard Lenton, Regional Employer Engagement Director for the Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association for Yorkshire and The Humber (RFCA).

A spokesperson for GO Outdoors said: “At GO, we have been supporting the Armed Forces Community for a number of years by offering additional discounts in conjunction with the Defence Discount Service.  Our unrivalled range of apparel, outdoor products and the activities we cater for make us an attractive destination for enthusiasts and occasional users alike; so we are delighted so many are able to take advantage of the extra discounts.

“We also wanted to reflect our ongoing commitment in a policy specifically for those colleagues who are or are considering becoming part of the Reserved Forces, so we have recently launched a Reservists Policy for colleagues who work for us.

“At GO, we recognise the vital role and contribution of the Reserve Forces and therefore the Armed Forces Covenant and our internal Reservists Policy truly reflect our pride and passion to be supporting this initiative.”

The covenant is a written and publicised voluntary pledge from businesses and charitable organisations who wish to demonstrate their support for the armed forces community, and will see much closer collaboration between Opening Boundaries and the Army based in Catterick Garrison, as well as the wider military forces in the area.

Lt Col. Black said: “We are absolutely delighted GO Outdoors has agreed to sign the covenant and show its commitment to respecting and supporting the Armed Forces.

“It is to everyone’s mutual benefit to recognise the value that our service personnel bring to the community.

“I’m really looking forward to looking at areas where we can work together over the coming years.”

Under the covenant the British Army and GO Outdoors will work more closely together, exchanging skills, knowledge and opportunities.
