Are you eligible for Defence Discount Service in 2024?

As the official discount service of the MoD, we’ve been committed to helping the UK’s armed forces, veterans and defence community save money since 2012.

And we’ll continue to do just that in 2024… and beyond!

With over 500,000 members, Defence Discount Service is partnered with more than 9,000 brands, providing savings, benefits and discounts from the likes of Apple, Samsung, New Look, Halfords, Ninja and O2.

Please note, driving licences, passports, pictures and bus passes will not be accepted as ID.

Serving Armed Forces – Regular and Reservist

• MoD payslip showing your name and service number. (The salary details, address and any PAYE information can be covered).

Please do not send us a copy of the pay information on the inside of the payslip.

Spouse/Partner (of Serving Personnel)

• Copy of your spouse/partner’s MoD payslip showing their name and service number. (The salary details, address and any PAYE information can be covered).

• Forces Dependents Card.

• Letter from DIO addressed to yourself or spouse/partner.

Veterans

• Veteran’s card.

• Certificate of service.

• Certificate of discharge.

• Proof of Armed Forces pension, Armed Forces Compensation Scheme or War Pension. (Please ensure that all financial information is covered – we only need to see that you are in receipt of one of these payments).

• Previous armed forces payslip showing your name and service number.

Please note, if you do not have any of these forms of ID, you can speak to Veterans UK to request a copy of your service records. Call them on: 0808 1914 218.

Cadet Forces

• Adult instructors in cadet forces, and all cadets aged 16+, are eligible for Defence Discount Service. Accepted ID includes:

• Completed, stamped cadet form. See this page for details.

• The page of your 3822 book that shows your name and date of birth.

• Payslip showing your name and service number, dated within the last three months. (The salary details, address and any PAYE information can be covered).

• Retired cadet forces - type B commission certificate/commissioning scroll (with reference to cadet forces).

NATO Personnel

• NATO payslip showing your name, dated within the last three months. (The salary details, address and any PAYE information can be covered).

• NATO ID card showing your name.

• Travel orders showing you are currently stationed in the UK.

MoD Civil Servant

• MoD payslip showing your name and staff number, dated within the last three months. (The salary details, address and any PAYE information can be covered).

War/service widow(er) or bereaved family member

• Addressed MoD letter.

• Armed forces pension document.

• Address War Widows Association GB letter.

•  Document showing spouse/partner passed away during, or as a result of, their service.

In all cases, please cover/obscure all sensitive or personal information. We only need to see information that confirm your eligibility; we do not need any details that would be considered intrusive.
